To discover your Snapchat username, just tap on the Profile icon at the top of the screen. Your username is displayed right next to your Snapchat score.

Unlike Facebook, Snapchat doesn't rely or insist on users revealing their true identity which in some cases can lead to Snapchat scams. This is entirely up to every user. Finding out who is the person behind a username is as easy as looking them up by their Snapchat username. If you're searching for a friend on Snapchat, but you don't have their username, you can add them to your contacts through Snapchat's address tool. Just launch the Snapchat app, tap Add by Username and in the search box, type the person's name, and check Snapchat's suggestions. Look through the list of matching individuals and when you find the person you're looking for, add them to your Snapchat account's contacts list.

Snapchat users can watch and share and watch videos outside of the app, and the same goes for people who don't have an account. Each Snapchat story has an individual link that redirects users to a video player on Snapchat.com and allows anyone to watch stories without logging in anonymously.

You can easily add your friends on Snapchat if your email ID or phone number is connected to your account. Find them by using the syncing contacts feature to display your profile to your acquaintances who are already using Snapchat.

Another way to find someone on Snapchat is by scanning their Snapcode (a QR code that can be scanned in the app to discover a person and add them on Snapchat instantly). If you're with someone and you'd like to add on Snapchat, or you have a photo or a screenshot of their Snapcode, you could locate their account in a few steps:

1. From your phone's home screen, open Snapchat, by tapping the app's icon.
2. Go to "Camera Mode" (the screen used to record your videos and photos).
3. Ask the user to open their Snapchat app, and in the upper left-hand corner of the app, tap on their Profile icon. The user's Snap code is the yellow box with the dots and their icon.
4. Point your phone's camera to their Snapchat code, tap and hold the screen for a few seconds, then let go. The camera should automatically scan the code and find their profile right away.
5. Tap Add Friend to add this person to your contacts list.

A Snapchat username could include both real name and username if they're under the 30-character limit. The "Appear As" name should ideally match your username since someone can only lookup by username, which is different than the name you appear as, that is displayed to followers when updating a story or sending Snaps.

Signing up to Snapchat only requires a username, the member's name, password, date of birth, and phone number. While the username cannot be changed, the display name (the one that makes people easier to be found or identified) can be changed as often as one wishes.

Changing a Snapchat display name is simple, and it starts by users opening settings by tapping on the Settings icon, then, below the "My Account" section, tap on Name and enter the new display name. Hit Save, and it's done. Friends who have added a user before the adjustment will continue to see the old display name, while friends added afterward will see the new display name.

What contributed to Snapchat's massive attractiveness is the resemblance with offline (face-to-face) interactions since the app allows its users to share multimedia messages that "self-destruct" in up to 10 seconds. Just like real-life communication, all interactions are temporary and are not stored anywhere. Snapchat servers are programmed to automatically delete snaps as soon as all recipients have viewed them. Unopened snaps are deleted after 30 days or after 24 hours if sent to a Group Chat.

Once you're on their profile, tap or click on the gear icon next to their username, if they have a name associated with their username, that's where you will find it.

Since Snapchat won't allow anyone to change their Snapchat username, the only way to do it is to create an entirely new Snapchat account and username and delete the previous profile. You can also try to modify your display name, but this will not mean you can alter the username you no longer want to use.

You should know that you cannot transfer any information from your old account before you go ahead, such as best friends, snap streaks, current Snapcode, earned trophies, or conversations. You'll be able to reconnect to your friends from your new account by simply syncing your device's contact list to your new Snapchat account and adding them in bulk to speed up the process.

Alternatively, you could take screenshots of your current friends' list then manually add them one by one. To access a list of your friends, go to the in the upper-right corner of the app, select Chat, and pick New Chat, then All to view your contacts in alphabetical order. Screenshot the friends' list, close the New Chat window from the "X" in the upper-right corner, and search for your friends to reconnect with them from your newly created account.
