It’s not that unusual for famous people to get into trouble with the law. Fame and fortune have a way of leading to pushing the boundaries of what is allowed. The billionaire, Bill Gates is one of those people who you might find it surprising that he was ever arrested. But to prove it, Bill Gates famous mugshot is readily available online (see pic).

Did Bill Gates Get Arrested?

Bill Gates is a big fan of fast cars, which is what led to his arrest and mugshot. In 1978, Microsoft, still in its early years, was based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The future looked promising, and Bill Gates decided to purchase a Porsche 911 and he raced it frequently in the desert for fun.

During one weekend, when tech nerd Gates was moving the office from Albuquerque to Seattle, Washington, he was stopped three times by Albuquerque police for speeding. A single cop who was tailing him stopped him the first time and the last time. After the third ticket, he was arrested and taken to jail. Bill gates was arrested for speeding nothing to do with a stop sign. What is basically a minor traffic violation for most people became headlines “bill gates arrested.”

Gates’ childhood friend Paul Allen had to bail him out of jail where the infamous mugshot took place. He was kept in police custody until Paul Allen arrived to bail him out from the police department.

Did Gates learn his lesson? No. Over time, he purchased a Porsche 930 Turbo , which he nicknamed “rocket.” He later bought a Mercedes, a Jaguar XJ6, a $60,000 Carrera Cabriolet 964, a $380,000 Porsche 959, which was impounded by customs due to emissions problems, and a Ferrari 348 that he nicknamed “dune buggy.” It seems the only fancy car Bill Gates didn’t buy was a Lamborghini.
