Clayton County, GA Arrests & Jail Records

How To Search Clayton County Arrest Records?

Clayton County law enforcement agencies make 7,700 of the approximately 30,900 annual index crime arrests reported in Georgia. These arrest records are part of law enforcement records that are available for public inspection and reproduction by the Open Records Act.

Nonetheless, this law permits law enforcement agencies to withhold records about pending investigations and those that may disclose investigative materials potentially endangering an individual's safety. Authorized individuals specifically named in a court order, the District Attorney's Office, law enforcement agencies, and the individuals named on the records may be granted access to these restricted records. Arrest records in Clayton County are available for a fee ranging from $0.10 to $20.

The Georgia Crime Information Center

The Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) serves as the central repository for criminal history information in the state. This agency only processes fingerprint criminal history checks and does not conduct name-based criminal history checks.

For non-criminal justice purposes such as employment and licensing, out-of-state businesses or agencies seeking a background check on a Clayton County resident must use the Georgia Applicant Processing Service (GAPS) and obtain an account number. Once registered, the applicant may visit an approved GAPS site for fingerprinting, and the results will be available to the agency within 24 to 48 hours.

Clayton County residents seeking fingerprint-based background checks for out-of-state employment or other personal purposes may register through the "applicant registration" tab on the GAPS website or contact the GCIC at (404) 244-2639.
